802.11ah WiFi HaLOW
I recently became aware that equipment has begun to become available for the 802.11ah WiFi standard, which in North America uses the 900MHz wireless band. I have a lot of experience using this frequency band for fixed wireless internet service using Motorola / Cambium Networks equipment. That equipment allows us to serve customers behind foliage and other obstacles when paired with good antennas. However, every wireless ISP equipment vendor has abandoned their 900MHz products, so I was interested to see if these early 802.11ah products will be a replacement for some of that stuff, or could be useful to regular consumers.
I released the following video summarizing the current state of 802.11ah, what equipment is available and some of my brief testing in a couple different situations.
